Kenn Amabilino

Born: Potters Bar (Hertfordshire) but doesn’t like to talk about it!

Lives in Dunbar with wife Heather (Daughter having been shipped of to University)

First moved to Scotland over 20 years ago as Lab Manager for a Synthetic Polymer company, (having previously lived in Southampton), originally living in Alva, Clackmannanshire. Has worked at Cement Works in Dunbar as Quality Manager for nearly 12 years.

Musical education came in the form of a Dad who played drums in local Town Band ( Brass etc.)and Trad Jazz Bands, although he never played an instrument himself. Exposed to Swing bands, Brass bands, blues, musical hall, 30s & 40s musicals from an early age, topped up by early 60s beat music courtesy of big sister and then went onto 70s prog rock and New Wave; still buying new music today.

Sang in a church choir as an angelic (HA!) little boy for 7 years, the highlights being part of a choir that conducted a memorial service to Charles 1st. every year in Trafalgar square in London on the anniversary of his execution (cue lots of tourist pictures) & once also singing as part of choir in St.Pauls cathedral. Ascribes his love of all harmony groups to this education.

After leaving University helped with a mobile Disco belonging to a club he was part of for several years.

  • Hobbies (apart from music): Cricket (Chairman of Dunbar) , Squash, Illustrated books, following his beloved Tottenham from afar.
  • Also involved as Vice Chairman on Board of Hallhill (Sports/Activity Centre) in Dunbar
  • Philosophies: Over the years I’ve got a lot out of the communities I have lived in and feel it’s a responsibility to give something back. It takes more energy to be negative than positive so greet life with a smile and a tune!
  • Community Radio: having two friends who have presented shows on community/local BBC radio in England, wanted to have a go himself to provide a service others don’t. Is proud of the faith shown by everyone on the station in allowing so many first timers to have a go. Is even prouder of ECFMs range of presenters in terms of age; where else would you find an organisation with active members spanning 40 years or more?

Ken is grateful for the opportunity to spread an alternative form of music show to music lovers from the start.
